Where the game data comes from

The game data on this site is compiled by us from the results published by the Nihon Ki-in and the Kansai Ki-in, together with publicly available collections of records of game results.

We handle only factual records: the date, the players, the result, the tournament, the round, the komi and the handicap stones. We do not collect, store or publish move-by-move game records. We do not reproduce articles, photographs or commentary either.

The ratings are our own calculation

The ratings shown here are estimates that this site calculates from the results above. They are not copied from any other site, and they are not published or endorsed by the Nihon Ki-in, the Kansai Ki-in or any other body.

This is not an official site. The method is explained in About the ratings.

What is counted

The site holds more than 130,000 games, from the pre-war period through to the most recent results. Of these, the ratings are calculated from domestic official games played in 1960 or later.

The professional rating list (452 players) and the women's tournaments rating list (94 players) are calculated independently of each other. Neither affects the other.

Wins and losses by default are counted in a player's record; jigo and no-result games are not. See About the ratings for details.

Updates and errors

Results are updated several times a week from publicly available information. Depending on when results are published and how long checking takes, an update can be a few days late. When it is, a notice appears at the top of the page.

Errors can also creep in while reading and organising published information. If you notice one, please tell us through the contact page. We will check it and correct it.

Older games

The further back you go, the patchier the surviving records become. In particular, not every game played before 2006 is included here. This is why a player's record on this site does not match the career record published by their Ki-in.

The contents of this site are offered for reference. The ratings are estimates, and we make no guarantee as to the accuracy or completeness of what is shown.
